Gypsy Rose Lee is probably the greatest strip_teaser_ of all time. Back in an age where strip shows were legitimate theatre rather than simply whoredom [and no, I'm not counting the carnival strippers which would often offer sexual favors as part of the show], Gypsy was the queen of the strippers, combining a wit and intelligence with just enough skin to drive you bananas. They probably would've had to shoot me back in those days, because jail or prison would not have stopped me, bluntly, from stalking Gypsy Rose Lee. In fact, men were known to openly masturbate at her performances, according to her bio. Her story became a Broadway musical, an offshoot of which Deborah performed in the title role, winning the role with her performance in the Broadway Bares VIII performance largely [and erroneously as a single event] regarded as the catalyst for my arrest in 1998. You would absolutely cream for this "Gypsy", Robby. No exaggeration. And, as for the production, a revival is about to start on Broadway. Bernadette Peters [a woman I wouldn't mind seeing take her clothes off either] is going to be the main role of Mama Rose. Think Diane to Deborah in a much larger and less appreciated sense. I would be very surprised if Gibson is not playing the role of Gypsy at some point later in the run, but I do not know who will be starting as Gypsy in this production. Mike
