My recollection is that folks were more upset about Madonna planting a big juicy kiss on Jesus' lips than as to what color his skin was. I also haven't heard of any organized religious groups being outraged by the PBS special, or for that matter, by any portrayal of Jesus as anything than white-bread. I guess if you are looking for people to be outraged about something, you can certainly find them, but I wouldn't consider a few isolated instance as indicative of anything.
