Dear fellow musicians, A huge fight is brewing between Local 802 (New York), AF of M and the League of American Theaters and Producers. If the League and their bean counters get their way, Broadway show ticket buyers won't be getting a "live" pit orchestra for the $60-$90 ticket price, but a high tech version of a Karaoke machine. This new technology already has the coined name of V.O. (virtual orchestra). The ramifications of all of this will dilute, cheapen and adulterate the Broadway Show experience, turning it all into a "canned" production. The dynamics and sophistication that live musicians give to the total effect will become a rather miserable experience. (Have any of you played a gig with a drum machine?) For more information go to www.savelivebroadway.com I hope 802 rises to the occasion, fights a good fight and wins. If not, we all loose one way or another. Please visit the web site, read it all carefully and think long and hard about the ramifications. God, I'm glad I'm almost ready to retire. Thanks for your time. Richard Bush
