The ticket vending machines at all skytrain stations that are being replaced may have been in service since 1983. In July 1983, my family and I rode the Stytrain for the first time when it was known by a much longer name: Vancouver Rapid Transit Demonstration Project (June-July '83). It ran from Main Street to just short of where Broadway station is today. You had to push buttons on the poles inside the train to open the doors. There were also buttons on the outside door to push to get in. The souvernir tickets we got that day are of the same type used until recently except for the price printed on them: Adults 0.75 cents, Child 0.30 cents. It appears few know that Skytrain was running in 1983. I asked a few people at ramdom recently about what year they though Skytrain began operating. All of 10 persons answered, '1986'. -- Tony email-address-deleted email-address-deleted
