The Star Online >News Thursday, July 03, 2003 Indon singer Inul’s musical banned PUTRAJAYA: A musical programme involving controversial Indonesian dangdut singer Inul Daratista has been banned for being “too raunchy”. The musical was one of the 21 feature films, serials, documentaries and musicals banned by the National Film Censorship Board in March for not conforming to government guidelines. BANNED: Inul singing and dancing at a Surabaya cafe in March. The Indonesian has been deemed 'too raunchy' for Malaysians. The singer, who is one of the latest sensations in Indonesia, had yet to release a single recording, but one estimate put the number of pirated VCDs of her performances sold at three million copies. Her singing and dancing style, which has been described as “bump-and-grind”, had been denounced by many in Indonesia. There had also been reported attempts to ban her concerts. According to a report, some Muslim religious leaders had even tried praying for rain to keep “impressionable fans” away from her show. Inul Daratista’s programme was the only musical banned by the board. Other banned works included four episodes of a serial documentary titled Kingdom of David: The Saga of The Israelites ,and episode 809 of the long-running Seinfeld TV show, titled The Abstinence .
