As for young Katie Holmes: "She's recently been taking singing lessons. > I've heard Katie's singing and it's beautiful. But I still may want a younger > actress." Well, all I can say is that I hope this movie isn't fucked up. The casting is everything, and they really need a solid male tenor (not necessarily a tenor in the opera sense, but definitely a very good singer with great pipes and range) for the Phantom and Raoul roles, and for Christine they need an operatic soprano. There is absolutely no way around the casting for the last role. To cast someone who can't sing an opera aria would be ridiculous as far as Christine's role goes, because the character is supposed to be a chorus girl who is "discovered" as a great singer because she has been mysteriously trained by a great, unknown teacher, in her dreams. It would be horrendous and ludicrous to cast someone without opera chops, as far as I am concerned. They'd better look to Broadway (at least) for this one. The talent pool there is going to make for a better movie than if they choose some pop star with a "regular" voice. By all means, pick male leads with good, non-operatic voices for the two major male roles, but they had best think twice about Christine! I have heard nonsense like Jessica Simpson tossed around for the Christine role already. As if! AndyNYC
