DARON NORWOOD’S MESSAGE OF COMFORT Daron Norwood wrote a song with his wife last November that came from their hearts. Titled “In God We Trust,” it’s a statement of belief. As the war in Iraq developed, the song seemed to mean even more to Daron. Then he realized that the Best In Texas festival where he was booked to perform was in Comfort, Texas, hometown of 22-year-old James Kiehl, a computer technician with the 507th Maintenance Company, who died with six other soldiers. Daron wanted to honor Kiehl with his song, but he didn’t know exactly how to go about it. Shane Media contacted the Comfort Chamber of Commerce to see what they thought the Kiehl family would like. The Kiehls were so pleased by the idea, they joined Daron on stage. Former Chamber president Rick Smith and the entire Kiehl family stood on stage while a Boy Scout color guard presented the American flag and set it at half mast. Then Daron and Chad Austin sang Daron’s moving song. Following the song, Daron presented a plaque with the lyrics to “In God We Trust.” And he received a warm hug from Mr. & Mrs. Randy Kiehl and James’ wife, Jill, who is expecting their first child in May. The baby will be named Nathaniel Ethan. Later during the Comfort Festival, Lisa Morales of Sisters Morales asked for a man in a cowboy hat to pass that hat among the crowd to take donations for Jill Kiehl and her expected son, and many music fans contributed. Those funds went directly to an account for the Kiehls at Bank of the Hills. Not only was the Best In Texas Comfort festival a great day of music, it was also -- thanks to Daron Norwood -- an occasion of comfort and pride for the Kiehls and for all who support our troops. Daron Norwood and Chad Artist are members of Graham Entertainment’s Texas Artist Group. They performed as part of a Graham Central Station showcase at the festival.
