"JD" <email-address-deleted> wrote in message news:email-address-deleted... : What in the hell is with that song? It sounds like it was recorded on : a Tascam 4-track tape deck by a 12 year old using no click and a Casio : keyboard for bass. The time is all over the place, the fake kick drum : is a half step behind at times. This thing sounds terrible. Only goes : to show, that even a crappy song, sung crappy, recorded VERY crappy : and played just as crappy can be a hit. This has beginner amateur : written all over it. Anyone else notice how god awful the production : and performance it? I've never heard something so home-demo sounding : get played on the radio before. It's kind of funny, but I heard this song for the first time a few days ago, and, in fact, heard it twice on that day -- once on a digital cable country station and the second time on KZLA (Los Angeles-based country station) -- and was so impressed by the song that I wrote a note on another songwriting list, mostly comprised of Nashville-based country writers, saying I thought it was probably the best country song, in the sense of traditional country music, I'd heard in ages. Mind you I wasn't commenting on the production, and Kid Rock's vocals, well, let's just say he's not going to make my list of all-time favorite singers anytime soon, though I do think they did the trick for the emotion expressed in this particular song. But the song, to me, sounded like one of the more "honest" ones I've heard on country radio in a long time, and the second time I was listening to it, I even had a mental image of George Jones singing on it in parts. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking when I heard Kid Rock's voice. ;-) Seriously, though, I've heard it another few times since then, and I still think it is one of the best country songs I've heard in some time. As for the production, I tend not to hear the production unless it gets in the way of the song, and I didn't think it did in this particular case. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. :-) Rick -- ========================================== Rick Paul Closet Cowboy Music (ASCAP) Lake Forest, California E-mail: email-address-deleted Web: http://home.earthlink.net/~rickpaul MP3s: http://rickpaul.iuma.com "Ho Ho Ho Spice" (benefit Christmas CD for HOSPICE): http://www.cdbaby.com/hohohospice ==========================================
