Practitioners of the (largely created from whole > cloth) modern pagan religions won't even get the irony. Ahem... I practice one of the Pagan religions of which you speak (Wicca), and I find irony in that lyric, but probably not the kind you mean. Basically, the carol reads a lot more like an Atheist's take on Christmas, not a Pagan's. Most of the Pagans I know have deep respect for their Christian friends and their beliefs. Hell, most of them started out some flavor of Christian before making their own personal, spiritual decisions to choose a different path. Far be it from me to speak for all Pagans everywhere, but I can say with cetainty that my spiritual beliefs are not exercises in trying to make logic and fact (the chorus of the lyric you cite) override questions of faith. I also don't see where criticizing other religions' beliefs (on a factual basis or otherwise) enhances my own spiritual experience, so I personally don't engage in that behavior. Most Pagans I know don't engage in it, either. Your mileage may vary. -- I don't expect life to be fair; | Doug Van Dorn I expect it to be unfair in my favor! | email-address-deleted
