However, after spending about twenty minutes trying to get up to speed, I think I have a basic grasp of what is going on here. Chime in as desired. The original thread was intended to state that Larry was not the first artist to produce a Christian Rock album. Now the thread seeems to have moved from that to "Does that mean he isn't the father of Christian Rock" to the "Of course he's not 'cause he hasn't influenced enough people to qualify". Here are my thoughts. It seems that there are many people on this thread who seem to think that Larry Norman rightfully deserves the title of father of Christian Rock. These people are attempting to substantiate this by citing the agreement of many people prominent in the field Larry is allegedly father of. Dave however, seems to remain unimpressed by the inclusion of any of the prominent-in-their-field people referenced because he is not familiar with them, therefore he feels they have no value in this argument. Those of you arguing the Pro-Larry-as-CCMDaddy argument are not only being asked to prove your opinion, but the opinions of those that you quote as having knowledge of the subject (and presumably more knowledge than Dave has on this particular subject -- Contemporary Christian Music). While he may have influenced a bunch of lightweight Christians, he has no value currently because "nobody" has heard of him. (Except those other people that Dave has also never heard of, and they don't count.) Arguing with this reasoning is useless. I know that if there is a father of Swahilian Folk Music I probably will not be in a position to argue for or against the validity of his title. I have no knowledge of that genre. I guess I could jump up and down and argue that since I, as a Tibetan Salsa Music afficianado, haven't heard of him or the people he has influenced, and since he hasn't influenced my Tibetan Salsa Music, then he couldn't rightfully be the Swahilian Folk Daddy that others with a knowledge of that music claim him to be. Hope that's at least as clear as the orange/oranges, yellow/lemons analogy, Renfroe
