True. However... there *is* something different in regards to lyrical
content when it comes to Christians wanting to sing the same songs that
other people have written or previously recorded. Out in the mainstream,
there's no particular "message" being spread. The topics for lyrics are
virtually endless. But the lyrics in Christian music, and in particular
praise and worship music, are centered around a central theme. That's no
excuse to not come up with a "new song," but it's also a reason why people
want to record the same things.
As far as the market being saturated or too commercial, *I* am the one who
chooses what I listen to. So what if there is more than one version of a
certain song. No one tells me I have to listen to 8 versions of the same
song! And on the other side of the coin, if I for some reason really like a
certain song *and* want variety, I now have 8 versions of the song that I
can choose from. :)
