They have some definite chops, but their compositional ability is every bit the equal of their virtuosity. You may want to check out some Italian bands as well - I just discovered one called Maxophone that is equal parts rock, jazz, and classical - with some great instrumentation (french horn, clarinet, sax, vibes et al to go with the usual guitar/bass/keys/drum). I have a distinct feeling that this one may be an all-timer with me. There are tons of others as well. Gentle Giant has already been suggested, and it is a great one - their songs tend to be on the shorter side (translation: under 8 minutes), and are filled to the brim with a classical influence. I'm hesitant to recommend Magma. If you want a classical/jazz influence, then these guys have it in abundance. However, you mentioned that you didn't like "spaciness" and they are sorta based on a sci-fi concept. > > > Thanks You're welcome Jeff
