View this article only Newsgroups: rec.music.classical.guitar Date: 2003-07-20 22:43:46 PST There are 2 more that come to mind: The Carver school of the creative and performing arts, in Montgomery, Alabama. They have classical guitar teachers at the elementary, junior high, and high school level. My good friend Greg Shirer teaches classical guitar and kick-boxing/karate at the high school, and is a very good teacher & player. Last I heard, he was playing Celedonio Romero's "Los Maestros" AND could kick a baseball bat in half with his shins. I think Sam Wong, from NC School of the Arts/Florida State is/was teaching there at the junior high. There is also a huge program with lots of kids learning classical guitar and playing ensembles in the public schools in Brownsville, TX. Dr. Michael Quantz used to teach there, but now teaches at UTexas Brownsville. I'm not sure who are the teachers there now, but it is a really thriving scene with a lot of activity, all in a little border town in the Southernmost tip of the country which is now one of the fastest growing areas in the US. In Austin, there is also McCallum High School for the performing arts. Tony
