Mr. O'Riley is a real classical pianist who plays Realklassik very well.
And he enjoys the music of Radiohead, for which I do not blame him, even
though I don't share that taste. But Sony "Classical" is the great Shiva
of the industry, the black hole into which serious careers plunge, and the
junkyard dog which withholds so many treasures its back catalogue. To
align with that label for the sole sake of recording crossover is, to my
thought, a dereliction of one's career as a classical recording artist.
Should you not think this is so, then please show me Yo-Yo Ma's CD of the
Elliott Carter Cello Concerto.
My guess is that this will mean no more recordings of Schumann, Prokofiev,
Stravinsky, or Busoni from Mr. O'Riley. And no more Kernis, Danielpour,
Ravel, Helps, Argento, or Maxwell Davies, to our even greater loss.
