I also question the concept of a "black interpretation." If you listen to Leontyne Price, is that a "black interpretation" of Verdi arias, or simply an inspired interpretation by a great artist who is a black American? And would that, then, make Beverly Sills' interpretations "white interpretations"? How would you be able to tell if you didn't see them in the flesh? I don't think anyone would or could know, and I therefore don't see how one can reasonably speak of a "black" or "white" interpretation of classical music. But if you're asking about great interpreters of classical music who are African-Americans, that's a totally different thing, and there have indeed been many, particularly but by no means exclusively in the field of opera.
