Hi Dean, My guess is that there was some confusion with the “Country Code” that was listed when they manufactured your alien registration card. I’ve seen this happen before where immigrants from Australia end up getting cards saying they are from French Polynesia. One of the Country Codes for Australia is RALIA, and one of the Country Codes for French Polynesia is AUSTR. We’ve seen this cause confusion before, and is why it’s a good idea for AILA members to look up the Country Codes and list them right on our clients forms to help keep this from happening. The Country Codes for Niger are, NIGER & NIGE, while the Country Codes for Nigeria are NIGEI & NIGIA. I’ll bet you a dollar this had something to do with it. Did you list the proper country code on your documents to help reduce the risk of an INS/BCIS screw up (not saying you had to, but it’s a good idea to do so)?
