An OOP book known as Billboard #1 Country Hits had stories on EVERY #1 Country Hit. I wish I had had the cash back then to have gotten it. > >38. Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days)/The Judds The Judds never did a bad song-period. Brings back good memories from the late 1980's. > > >39. Kentucky Rain/Elvis Presley > A whole lot of Elvis' stuff was #1 and Top 10 Country despite the fact it wasn't really "country". Nevertheless, he started out country before he became the King of Rock And Roll. This song was written by Eddie Rabbitt, not Ronnie Milsap as some have speculated. Ronnie Milsap's "Smoky Mountain Rain" was definitely inspired by this song, though. > >46. I Still Believe In You/Vince Gill The ladies sure loved this one. > > >52. Straight Tequila Night/John Anderson I have always been certain the the riffs of this song were borrowed from Paul Davis' 1981 pop hit "Cool Night". Listen to it and tell me if you don't see a similarity. Of course, it is not as obvious as Dolly's "We Used To" whose intro was a perfect riff of "Stairway To Heaven". It is still one of the kind of songs that seems to be missing from today's country radio and a whole lot better than "Swangin' (Swinging)". I think it was the best he ever did. > > >53. Maybe It Was Memphis/Pam Tillis It's always unique when the daughter/son is as talented as the father. Both Tillises are great. > > >77. Rose Colored Glasses/John Conlee Nobody, but NOBODY can sing a sad song like John Conlee. Don't try to listen to one of his CD's all the way through if you're in a happy mood. I love this song a lot: add it to about 15 others I love by him. Too bad nobody's done a box set of him.
