Many of the women mentioned in other people's lists are my favourites as well. I'd like to add a couple of others. Danni Leigh Heather Myles Kimmie Rhodes Lucinda Williams And for all my overseas friends, here is a list of my favourite Aussie women singers. I truly believe that the women of country here are in one of those golden periods as were American women about a decade ago. I would hope that some of you will be interested enough to look up some of them on their websites and have a listen to the music, you will be amazed. I am leaving Kasey Chambers off the top of my list as I feel she had already made her mark outside her home country. Beccy Cole This lady traveled with her mother's country band from an early age and at one stage sang with Kasey's family band, The Dead Ringers. She has well and truly paid her dues and she can play every instrument in her band if necessary plus she has a wicked sense of humour. Catherine Britt An outstanding young talent. He debut album "Dusty Trails & Heart- break Cures" ws released when she was only 17 and she writes much of her own lyrics. Her biggest inspiration is Hank Williams, so much so that on her recent 18th birthday she had his name tattooed on her hip. Tania Kernaghan Sister of Australia's premier country music star Lee, Tania more than holds her own with her unmistakable delivery of real bush ballads and love of the land. No pop crap for this girl Sara Storer An unashamed Australian, Sara knows how to get to the heart of a lyric, be it a song about driving tractors in the wheat harvest, or a heart-tearing ballad about an affair with a married man. I admit her accent could be a little strong for some, but she will grow on you. Melinda Schneider Daughter of world-famous yodeller Mary Schneider, Melinda is another daughter who has earned her dues traveling with her mother. She is energetic, cute and can hover easily on the borders of popular music then slide back into country without a blink of her pretty eyes. She also writes most of her own songs, including her monster hit here in OZ, the autobiographical "Story of My Life" "I was born in '71, Policeman Dad, and a yodelling Mum I am proud of where I'm from, And what I've become". Felicity This girl sings Western Swing like she was born for it. Her CD "New Shadows" is one of the most played in my CD Library, and I never fail to get a thrill at the sound of her voice. And like Melinda, she can sing other more poppy sounding stuff without ever letting you forget where her heart is firmly rooted. And those are just for starters. Try also Cyndi Boste, Lyn Bowtell, TJ Dennis (her Dad named her Tammy Jo for Wynette and Jones), Gina Jeffries (her lst 3 albums rocked, unfortunately in her last "Angel" she did a Faith and it stunk) and I'm sure there are more I've forgotten, including some really good indigenous artists in Christine Anu and Kerrianne Cox.
