errrr... Every blues guy from Mississippi of a certain age (eg) who was around for the late fifties/early sixties... heard and usually liked country music cause that`s what they heard on the radio. Earl Hooker, one of the greatest slide guitarists in blues history had a completely separate career playing country music. Read how BB King incorporated country singing styles into his learning process. I`ve had conversations with bluesmen like Junior Wells, Big Jack Johnson, Phillip Walker and Lonnie Brooks. They all had country songs in their repertoire because the chitlin circuit crowds demanded it. And they often saw that a slow soul ballad and country ballad often had very little difference in its relative qualties. I met a pile of black people in Mississippi who appreciate older style country. And funk. And Lou Rawls style crooning. And blues with a soul perspective. And raw Mississippi hill country blues. And yes.. rap... in its many incarnations. Do you want to talk about Louisiana? Even better examples there.
