I felt the same way, watching the halftime "show." You could see that, while
the paid performing "audience" around the stage were all excited, the actual
fans in the stands were barely paying attention to the performance. And I
was amazed that they'd have Shania Twain do a so-called live performance,
where she's merely lip-synching the song. I had way, way more respect for No
Doubt and Sting, and enjoyed their performances a lot more.
On the other hand - I'd really rather they just stop having these
high-priced entertainment extravaganzas during half-time at the Super Bowls.
When I attended SB XXX here in Arizona, I didn't bother watching Diana Ross
and whoever else was out there - I took advantage of half-time to hit the
head, and grab a beer.
I was also ticked off about the opening performance - why was Celine Dion, a
Canadian citizen, singing America the Beautiful, "My home sweet home..." ??
What, they couldn't find a decent U.S. citizen-performer who could do it?
I've got nothing against the Canadiens, in fact I like Canada just fine...
but I don't understand why they'd set up a patriotic song like that without
even having a patriot singing it. Just something to gripe about, since I"m
still disappointed in the season being over two weeks ago, I guess.
