i suspect that this person is actually a skilled dancer in multiple
genres, including c/w. part of why i think this way is that one of my
closest dance friends (who until recently ran a monthly ballroom dance
and programmed a lot of c/w music, btw) once told me that she loves
west coast swing (and is terrific at it - both lead & follow), but not
the people who dance it - and i have seen examples of behavior (the
'in' crowd, the hangers-on, women who only dance with leaders who
compete in jack&jill so as to improve their own chances, etc.) at
wcs-swing only venues that make it easy for me to understand why she
feels that way.

p.s. at the risk of starting a legitimate discussion, do people find
that there's a difference in behavior/etiquette/expectations based on
whether it's a 'club' dance/venue vs. a "ballroom-type" setting? (i
would define 'club' as being where one could expect the dance in
question to be danced 80-90% of the evening, whether it be two step,
salsa, or argentine tango - although oddly enough, i wouldn't
categorize swing & lindy that way)
