My darling M's compliment

Sigh.
Every once in a while, my compliment-impaired M. comes up with a really,
really good one in spite of himself.
We were at a club with a friend the other night. Good song came on--NIN,
"(I want to fuck you) Like an Animal." Oh, I wanted to dance! The friend
says, so let's go dance! Sadly, there was not room on the dance floor. I
dance big. I explained this to the friend, who has never seen me dance.
M. leaned over and said (paraphrasing an old Cult song):
"She dances like a slow flame burning."

Friend looked back and forth at the two of us, quite surprised. Said
she'd never heard such a description before.

I just smiled. M. explained that I dance with my arms as much as my
legs. I demonstrated, doing a little "chair dance."
I was told, many years ago, by a middle eastern friend, that I danced
like a houri ("one of the young, eternally beautiful girls of the
Mohammedan paradise," per Worldbook). She said it was because I kind
of/almost belly dance but without so much hip movement/belly shaking,
and with the arm movements. Hm.
Anyway, I asked M. about it later, and he said from the first time he
saw me dance--the first night we met--I made him think of a candle flame
flickering, and he thought of the Cult song Fire Woman. The lyric is
"Twistin' like a flame in a slow dance, baby," but he didn't think that
fit quite right, so he changed it around a little in his head. And he
came up with "she dances like a slow flame burning."

His compliments may be few and far between, but they are definitely
worth waiting for. :)
