She told me that a belly dance is done in 4 stages. The first is the stage of courting, it is portrayed with fun, fast music. The second stage is that of the wedding, this is danced to slow music with the use of a veil. The third stage is that of child birth, this is portrayed with floor work that includes the belly roll. The rolling action of the belly assists the woman in child birth as it pushes the baby out in a natural motion. The rolling of the belly is also used to assist the woman in fertilization as it massages the uterus and gets it active so that the woman conceives faster. The fourth stage is "The celebration of life". It is portrayed by dancing with the entire body for enjoyment. Includes dancing with fast hip shaking , shimmies, chest lifts and drops, anything that indicates a time of celebrating. Ummm...how do you do Stage 3? ;-) Ed Jay (No X to reply)
