Subject: Re: PHX 4th of July Social Dancing From: email-address-deleted (Pvtdik007) Date: 7/8/2003 10:26 PM Mountain Standard Time Message-id: <email-address-deleted> "Sorry, I forgot to mention John Lindo and Rick Tadra. Rick and I both understand what it is to suffer what we consider uninspiring (I'm being kind) music at the regular PHX club dances. I'm sorry that this spilled over into the PHX 4th convention. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons (perhaps trying to save a buck or two, or probably more simply that they just don't care) certain members of our board decided to not hire the best they could for such a big convention. Bad move I think. Mark was correct IMHO that there was no flow or continuity... and was so - so at best. What Mario did was to (re) introduce what our club should have been doing for the past couple years...that is serve up a mix of GOOD music and that did NOT happen during the earlier hours of social dancing. I am not attacking the local guys, I know most of them. I have been (as well as Rick and a few others) begging the board of the GPSDC to get some better music, pay the DJ's, intice the better dancers back to the club with music that inspires...sadly and typically, ours does not. Not just my opinion. Russ PHX" As Chris Brown and others stated...he [Mario] INSPIRED us to dance (whenever he played) and I heard no boos from the crowd (who were mostly asleep or doing the zombie dance (did you ever win one of your world championships in this catagory of dance?) Were you there Wed, Thur, Fri. evenings? If you were, you'd understand what so many dancers were complaining about. I actually heard someone at the table behind me shout out "This music sucks!" As a member of the GPSDC I went to him and asked him if he would go to any of the board members present and express his opinion to them. Whether he did or not, I do not know; I hope that he did. However, since I'm not one to hide in the corner and just pretend all is well, I would hope that everyone who felt cheated about the MIX of music would write to the board members here in PHX. You can find the website easily enougha t GPSDC.org and more specifically write to the president, Jack Gathings, at email-address-deleted If we are going to spend big bucks to attend dance events we should expect THE BEST THAT CAN BE OFFERED...not a "peanut butter and jelly convention!" Have a nice day ; ) Russ PHX
