Come to a special English Barn Dance in San Francisco -- we've got an excellent caller and delightful musicians, imported at great expense for your listening pleasure. Enjoy some of the liveliest music of the past couple of millennia! -->(Note: event moved from Ashkenaz in Berkeley)<-- Music by Paul Sartin (of Belshazzar's Feast) and Noel Cragg Calling by Alan Winston Thursday, July 24th 8-10:30 pm Goat Hall 400 Missouri St San Francisco, CA 94107-2827 Corner of 19th and Missouri in San Francisco $9 admission, $7 for BACDS members For more information, call 650-365-2913 (before 4 pm Thursday) or see http://www.bacds.org Incredibly easy, bouncy, rollicking music and dance -- dance along or just listen -- all dances taught and called, no partner needed, beginners welcome. Dance to the light-hearted calling of Alan Winston: Alan has been calling dances for nearly 20 years -- he regularly leads English country and ceilidh dancing at venues throughout the Bay Area and beyond, delighting dancers at grand balls and dance parties alike. Alan's dry wit and welcoming style keep dancers smiling, and his encyclopedic dance repertoire will ensure an evening full of robust, happy dances. Listen to the music by Paul Sartin and Noel Cragg: Half of the acclaimed English folk duo Belshazzar's Feast, fiddler and oboeist Paul Sartin already had a long list of traditional English folk dance credentials when he teamed up with accordionist Paul Hutchinson in 1995 as Belshazzar's Feast. The duo's six recordings, rich with both tradition and humor, have done much to spread English folk music as a participatory dance form. Sartin teaches at King's College (Cambridge), produces recordings, and is founder of the Roots Radio Show. At Paul Sartin's side will be Noel Cragg on accordion -- Noel's flying fingers, comprehensive knowledge of tunes, and whimsical good cheer make him a perfect partner for Paul. A man of many musical talents, Noel studied music at Oberlin Conservatory and participated in many early music and baroque ensembles, ending up with degrees in musicology and computer science. Noel wasted his youth playing the oboe and piano, but now he plays traditional music for dance events around the Bay Area -- he and Paul just finished a week-long stint playing at the nationally-known English Dance Week run by the Bay Area Country Dance Society. We hope to see you there!
