I've often heard the "special motion" of Merengue referred to the "lame duck" step. :-) BTW, for those who may regard Merengue as a lower class/form of dance, last night I (and several others) danced Merengue. On a crowded dance floor. Much faster than your typical ballroom speed. Without banging into anyone (though there was the occasional bum brush). For about 5-8 minutes a song. A few friends from the ballroom community who had experienced this band for the first time were tired but beaming with joy and laughter at so much fun. Best workout I can recommend. Of course, that does not mean YOUR favourite dance is any lesser for the existence of this dance. Nor does it mean this dance is any better than yours. It's just different.
