American Smooth ballroom Tango is danced by far more people in the US than the International Standard form of the dance. This American style tango mixes many elements from Paso Doble and other ballroom dances (rhumba fans? waltz pivots?) into its styling. There's also a Chinese Tango, danced by a very large community in California, to Oriental sounding Tango music. Not sure what part of China this dance is from. International Standard Tango technique was apparently strongly influenced by German ballroom dance champions in the 1930's. A nice circle, given that the Bandoneon, a German designed musical instrument, is very often played in Argentine Tango music. IMHO.
