I'm a Swing dancer who also dances the ballroom dances. I am not a
ballroom dancer as the term is usually used. Most of us Swing dancers
don't think much of Ballroom dancers and have made obsersvations not
unlike yours.
The Ballroom dance crowd is also not very social. They usually dance
with only one partner whereas we Swing dancers are very social and
extremely promiscuous. I always try to dance with every Follower at a
dance. Some dances there are too many but I try. I dance with
beginners and champions, the short, tall, fat, thin, beautiful, ugly,
young, old, the one who appears to be "out of place" (such as a White
person where most are Black) and anyone else who'll dance with me. I'm
known about the country as not only being "fun to dance with" but also
as one who never says "No!" to an invitation to dance. I'm very proud
of both of those aspects of my being.

If you're referring to International Style dancing, you're unlikely to
do anything in an amusement park line. But I'm primarily a Swing and
ChaCha dancer. Swing is danced in a slot that's about two arms long
and about a body and a half wide. No problem dancing in amusement park
lines. ChaCha can also be done in a similar slot although it ought not
be.

Fortunately, people are courteous, curious, and appreciative. We
always get the space we need.

Only because you appear to know too little to understand. When you
learn more, you'll know.

I've never said any such thing!
Thank you for your lucid explanation of muscle memory. To make it more
familiar to others, it's what makes it possible for you to safely use
a bicycle or roller skates or swim after years of having not done so.
My first Swing dance after a 24-year hiatus, m'muscles said "Hey! We
can do dat" and did. It was all there; not very good but good enough
to please my partner.
