15th Annual
JOHN DUFFY MEMORIAL DANCE - June 8, 2003
Our 15th Annual John Duffy Memorial Dance this past Sunday was another
resounding success and packed the house. It was great to see so many faces
from the past as well as a wealth of new dancers.
In celebrating our 15th year we wanted to expand this annual dance and
recognize other dancers in addition to John Duffy. A memorial display board
was created for Frank Manion and Betty Corbus to commemorate their
contributions in promoting Swing through holding dances, running contests,
teaching, and being involved in the dance community. Another memorial board
was created to remember other Bay Area dancers that have departed.
This new concept board included photos and names of some dancers and
provided a blank space where the attendees could write in names.
Our intention is to make this a "Remembrance Dance" for all Bay Area dancers
that have passed on. We encourage any assistance from you, the
dancers, to include more names that we may have missed for next year's
dance.
The Jack & Jill contest was very exciting with beautiful awards and the
winning couple receiving tickets to our Mountain Magic 2003 Swing Dance
Convention in Lake Tahoe.

Judges: Andy Bouman, Marla Bach-Saltzstine, Shanna Paulazzo, Phil Trau, and
Brooke Wilhelm.
John Duffy's two Daughters, Monique & Bronwyn (and Grandson, Trevor John),
were on hand to present the Jack & Jill awards to the winners.

Many thanks to all the competitors that danced in the contest, the Judges,
Dance Assistants, and all the dancers who attended (and our out-of-towners:
Richard Maruyama, Csilla Modocsai, & Lisa Kleitz) making this one of our
best memorial dances ever.
