Has anyone heard this CD? I'm a DJ at an SG radio station, and we have a copy of this CD. On occasion, I'll play a number or two from it. I'll always announce, "Now, I'm going to do something a little different. . ." and I'll talk about the CD, describing it a little, and play the song. While I haven't gotten any complaints, I haven't gotten any positive feedback either. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard it, and what they thought of the CD, or the concept. I, personally, would like to see other SG groups do similar projects. I think Greater Vision would put out a good one. There are other instances when I'll play something that's off the beaten path, so to speak. We have a CD by a choir called The Century Men. On that CD is a cover of "Just A Little Talk with Jesus." It starts out with a men's choir, who I believe are The Century Men, singing a somewhat emotional version of the song. Then it goes into another choir, and this time, I believe it's The Broadway Inspirational Voices, singing a tight version of the song, much like a Marine choir would. It finishes off with a singer named Darius de Haas singing a black gospel version of the song. It all comes together nicely, and is a toe tapper. The name of the CD is "Anthems in Disguise." And finally, and this one is most recent, is Tim and Mollie O'Brien. We are an SG station, but we go a little heavier on the bluegrass gospel than a lot of other SG stations do. On a BGG comp, we have a number by Tim and Mollie called "Shut De Do" (pronounced "doe"). While very hard to describe, it's got sort of a Calypso/Folk sound to it. Because this is a bluegrass group, I play it from time to time, again, announcing something a little different. Because all these songs are related to Southern or Bluegrass Gospel in some way, I do think it's entertaining to play them for the listeners, even though they do bend the format somewhat. But keep in mind, if an SG group were to do a heavy metal number, or if someone were to rap an SG song, you ain't hearin' it on my airshift. Just throwing that out. Take care.
