I've been listening to the new Oak Ridge Boys release called _Colors_. Some fairly interesting stuff. It's a patriotic project. They do a remake of "Thank God For Kids" and an acapella version of the "Star Spangled Banner." Otherwise, I think it's all new material. I like the title track in particular . . . "Red for the bloodshed, Blue for the wounded, White for the crosses on our soldiers graves. Thru the rain, thru the sun, these colors never run." The gospel message is included in the lyrics of a couple songs, but it's mostly subtle references than what you heard on their _From The Heart_ CD. "G I Joe and Lillie" is a biographical song about Joe Bonsall's parents. Looks like the partnership with Spring Hill Records is working out well for them. They are pushing a _G I Joe and Lillie_ book and they're embarking on a "Red, White, and Blue" tour sponsored by Blublocker sunglasses. There's a bluegrass number I like as well called "Glory Bound." Another strong cut is an Americana nostalgia lyric that names off some great icons like the '57 Chevy and Zebco fishing rods. It's called "American Beauty." -- David Bruce Murray / email-address-deleted ---Making hay while the sun shines--- "I know a pagan piano riff when I hear it." ---Dr. Bobby Clark written May 7, 2003 by "The Original Tenor of the Cathedral Quartet"
