Just the way it works, and in a lot of ways, it is a good thing, trust me on that. This newest release from Scott Hisey though is at a caliber higher than most of those big names. I must say, it is a real treat to hear and given the chance to review this album. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is country. The way it should be. Every song is original and co-written by Scott Hisey and Ron Vincent. Each and every one of the 10 tracks is traditional and full of powerful country lyrics. The best of the tracks is kinda hard to choose, but, there is one that really stands out. It’s the first tracks and hooks you into wanting to hear the rest. “Getting Over A Good Sober”, well, do I need to say more? Ok, you asked for it, I will. This has everything a country hit song needs. A song with great upbeat tempo and oh yes, the mention of a honky tonk and drinking is what every country fan loves. Ah, country, done right. “She’s Gettin Hot” is one to love. A lyric like “She’s Gettin hot while I get burned” and “how do I get by while I know she’s with him and all the love that used to burn will never be again,” how can you go wrong. The final track is another one that I would have to say is another favorite. “Nashville Way” talks a bit about the hard ways of life in Nashville. “There ain’t no room for a new point of view, its all done the Nashville way”, can’t be said any better. Hisey hits it perfect. This is one of those hidden treasures that need to be a part of your collection. If you haven’t taken the chance to pick up any album I’ve reviewed before or if you never have listened to what I’ve supported in the past, this is one I hope you will listen to me. This is one you need, not should get or anything like that. Get this one. Grade: A+ (not many get this grade. That’s for sure. Information to purchase: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/hisey If you do not have a credit card or have difficultly purchasing by the internet, please, e-mail me and I will get you a copy and we can work out the details. I don’t want you not to be able to get it. The Derailers “Genuine” Lucky Dog Records http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008NGA7/countrymusica-20 The Derailer’s are back for their 2nd release from Lucky Dog Records. Their 50’s feel, honky tonk, Bakersfield sound is what they are known for and keep true to it on this newest release. It is a bit different to hear at first, especially if not used to the sound, but this album will hook you into it. The very first track, “The Way To My Heart”, I wanted to ply the intro over and over, and the rest of the album is worth playing many times as well. “Leave A Message, Juanita” is greatly written and maintains such a catchy sound they have. The song talks about that feeling of wanting the old flame to call, in this case at least leave a message. “I Love Me Some Elvis” is a track just about that and just one of those wisely written and performed songs that is enjoyable to hear. “The Wheel” is a bluegrass like- gospel tune. “You take the wheel, I’m tired of driving. Jesus show me the way,” can it be put any better? “Genuine” just may be the best track, but none on this album are bad. How about a song about a girl that is so “Genuine.” Ah, good Bakersfield country. Open your country horizons just a bit and take a listen to The Derailers’ newest release, I think you just may enjoy what you hear. Contemporary, but a classic sound, it is something to try out for sure. In The News: Tracy Byrd’s new single, “The Truth About Men” is reported to have a “over the top, star-studded video coming in April.” Stay tuned. Possible hint, Montgomery Gentry, Blake Shelton, and Andy Griggs are featured on the new single. I must say the song is very humorous and sounds like a fun song to record, however, being a bit intoxicated recording it I’m sure helped. But, hey, that’s country for ya. It is a real treat to hear for sure! Darryl Worley was presented with an American Flag flown over the Pentagon on the 1st anniversary of 9-11. What a special item to be presented to him for his support of the troops Darryl has shown by visiting them in Afghanistan and his newest single, “Have You Forgotten,” and showing great support to the troops and their families. An update on Johnny Cash; he remains in the hospital and it is hoped he will be released this weekend. The Dixie Chicks have enough problems, people still steamed about their comments. Now, there is one more thing to add to their troubles. The fan club is now being sued along with Yahoo! And Ticketmaster. It comes from the club fees of $30 for pre-sale tickets for their upcoming US Tour. Some members are disappointed in that they were believed that they would be given good seats for the shows. The claim suggests misrepresentation, a conspiracy, and a fraudulent scheme, claiming in fact that those who forked over the $30 got the worst seats. More information at http://celebrityjustice.warnerbros.com/news/03/03/27a.html The “All-Star Bluegrass Celebration” will be held at the Opry House Wednesday. The show includes Dr. Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury, Alsion Krauss, Mountain Heart, and many others. The show is being recorded for PBS, an air date as not been determined as of yet. Reba McEntire continues to work on her sitcom “Reba” and will also appear on Hollywood Squares the week of April 28. Fan Fair single show tickets go on sale April 7, 2003. Sherrie Austin has been signed to Broken Bow Records. Chris Hartman of Emerson Drive has left the band, deciding to live life off the road and to enjoy life with his new fiancée. Dale Wallace has replaced him on the keyboards. More information to come I’m sure with a new album can’t be but too far off. Bill Anderson has been charged with domestic assault last Tuesday. Court date has been set for May 14, 2003 and was released on a $1500 bail. It is a bit detailed to report here, but Nashville’s newspaper, The Tennessean has the full article posted. http://www.tennessean.com/local/archives/03/03/30755694.shtml?Element_ID=3 0755694 There you have it!
