First is there any type of way to check the creditability of an instructor?
Is there a national registry or association to check for accomplished
professional teachers or instructors in my area?
Might call up the college to see if they offer a guitar music course.
Suggestions or idea's in finding an instructor or teacher?? >>

If you are like most people, you will go through a couple teachers during your
learning period. The very first thing you should consider is where you want to
go with the guitar. What or who do you want to play like. Regardless of the
teacher, each has his/her own way of teaching along with their music
preference. You want to find one that has experience with your type of music
or artist.
Some teach strictly by the book but then you have to ask yourself, do you want
to go through four books before playing anything you want to play? Some teach
by shortcuts or ear training. Then you have to ask yourself, is the music I
want to play current where this method will be to my advantage. So this is
your first goal, where do you want to go with the guitar.
