BLUE MONDAY
PLAYLIST - July 7, 2003. Hosted by Mark Halverson each Monday 6 -- 7:00 P.M.
This pre-taped show featured three releases with a variety of material. The
Monoco/DeFrancesco stuff was acquired at the Hot Summer Jazz Festival in
Minneapolis the week before where I had seen both artists. The boys are playing the
NEW Hammond B-3, yet another attempt to imitate the venerable original, on
the CD. I think there are only a handful of prototypes of this instrument out
there. Reportedly it not only replicates the B-3/Leslie sound accurately, but
does much more.

HOST COMMENTS: Saturday the Friends of KMSU presented the Janiva Magness Band
from Los Angeles at a benefit for the station held at Hooligans in Mankato.
It was an excellent gig and was well attended. Buddy Guy is appearing at "Edge Fest" along with Joe Cocker at the
Prairie's Edge casino Saturday night. This is not in the immediate area, but is a
nice drive if you follow the scenic river route. For more info check out:
<http://www.fireflycreek.com/entertainment.htm>. We tried to get some promo comps
for that, but nobody was interested in talking to us.... I will probably be railroading to Chicago tomorrow for a brief visit.
Maybe time to hit a couple of blues clubs between trips to Wrigley, museums, etc. The WEB cast does appear to finally work properly. See the link at the
top of the page if you have nothing better to due with you radio listening
time. I know some of you will get a kick out of the soft midwest inflections of
us White Bread Blues Boys... Nonetheless, Blues Before Monday will continue
with the archives shows. They are in sort of a "jukebox" format.   An update is
overdue. Find links to specific shows (and links to some other good radio
stations that broadcast at least some blues at: <http://mnmojo.com/Music/>
Several more recent shows should be archived soon (thanks Pete!!).

SHOWS & A BRIEF HISTORY
BLUES BEFORE MONDAY is the original locally produced blues program in South
Central Minnesota.   This three hour program (Sundays, 7-10 P.M.) has been on
the air since 1991, when it was conceived by Mark Halverson.   Mark has
produced and occasionally engineered this popular Blues program since it's birth.
Gary Campbell, a lifelong friend of Marks is a welcome, regular guest who's
knowledge and enjoyment of the music is appreciated by listeners. Mark and Gary's
friendship (dating back to grade school) has deepened as a result of their
mutual goal of giving area listeners a taste of the Blues....
BLUE MONDAY was added in June of 1997.   Blue Monday has aired each Monday 6
- 7 p.m. ever since, providing a variety of tunes and an enlightening
education on the history of the musicians and upcoming events in the area. The show
opens to Albert Collins' "Blue Monday Hangover."
NOON BLUES BREAK, also hosted by Mark, airs each weekday from 11:40 A.M. to
Noon. This brief blues interlude often provides the listening audience with a
commemoration of birthdays (listeners and artists alike) and/or a prelude to an
anticipated local blues event.   This program has aired for about six years.
KMSU 89.7 / KMSK 91.3 FM broadcasts from the Alumni and Foundation Center on
the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.   The station is staffed by
broadcast professional, students of the University, and volunteers from the
greater Mankato Community.   The network serves all of south-central Minnesota
and reaches into the Twin Cities Metro Area with transmitters in Mankato and
Austin and translators in Fairmont and Albert Lea, Minnesota.
QUESTIONS about these broadcasts should be addressed to Mark at:
email-address-deleted.
