Every week in our local entertainment newspaper, NOW magazine, they take out a two page ad to promote their concerts at various venues around the city. Here's some of the artists that they are booking in the next little while from this weeks issue: Bjork, Vans Warped, James Taylor, Roxy Music, Tori Amos, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Blue Rodeo, Damien Rice, Alien Ant Farm, Boston, Sex Pistols, Bryan Adams, Steely Dan, Billy Idol, Maria Cary, Blur, Taproot, Jason Mraz, Train and Grandaddy to name a few>> You know, I would like to think that if the House of blues booked blues acts(trad, new, etc) that they would have a thriving business by doing so. The sad reality of the picture is it is hard to get people to come out to many blues shows these days. The fan base has shrunk quite considerably, and coupled with the sad state of today's economy and the multitude of choices the casual music listener has these days, they really have no choice but to book acts that will draw and turn a profit. I believe one of the key elements to effecting a change in perception is education of the general public to the many different blues acts and styles of music there actually are. I think the average person gets very little exposure to blues music except what they may hear on an underwear or car commercial.
