Because Fab Five and the link between ska and jazz have been topics here
recently, I thought some might be interested in learning about and passing on
the tentative schedule for the 13th Annual International Jamaica Ocho Rios Jazz
Festival:
Sat., June 7: Jazz Dinner, Glenn's Jazz Club--Mr. C and Trudy Pitts Organ Duo
Sun., June 8: Opening Jazz Day, Almond Tree Hibiscus Lodge--Overboard & Friends
Youth Band (North Carolina) and the Philly Jazz Invasion with Mr C and Trudy
Pitts Organ Duo, Byard Lancaster Blues Band, singers Michal Beckham and George
V. Johnson, and jazz bagpiper Rufus Harley, as well as the Jamaica Big Band
with Sonny Bradshaw, Myrna Hague and Jamaica Ska Revival featuring Lester
Sterling.
June 9-14: Free public lunchtime concerts at Island Village featuring local and
visiting foreign bands daily
Tues., June 10: Jazz in the Market, Ocho Rios Marketplace--Progression Band
with Byard Lancaster.
Wed., June 11: World Music Night, TBA
Thurs., June 12: Jazz Cocktails, Almond Tree Hibiscus Lodge--Kingsley Ettiene
Organ Trio (Canada/Grenada).
Fri., June 13: Blues in the Night--Big Joe Turner Sextet.
Sat., June 14: Concert and Awards, TBA
Sun., June 15: Father's Day Concert, Almond Tree Hibiscus Lodge--Antelope
Valley Big Band (California), Curtis Fuller Super Band (U.S.), Lorraine Klaasen
(Canada/South Africa); Kingsley Ettiene Organ Trio, Dean Fraser Afro Jazztet,
Jon Seiger's Louis Armstrong Tribute, Butler University Vocal Jazz Ensemble
(Texas), Fab Five, and Lester Sterling's Jamaica Ska Revival.
