The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame/Carver Theatre for the Performing Arts preesnts Cuban Jazz Funk Artist Miguel Romero in concert Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 7:30PM. This concert is sponsored in part by the Southern Arts federation and the NEA. ""Romero is a heavyweight by any musical standard." -Atlanta Journal Constitution. Romero studied at the famed Harlem Jazz Mobile with such greats as Max Roach, Sonny Redd and Freddie Waites. Romero went on to study at Lehman College in the Bronx and graduated with a B.S. degree in Music Composition. He also studied the Schillinger System of Musical Composition with Bob Bianco. He studied big band arranging and film scoring with Don Sebesky. Miguel performed at the 2001 Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux Switzerland. Romero headlined at the 2002 Colorado Springs Jazz Festival where he performed for over 20,000 people. Romero was a panelist at the 2002 International Jazz Educators Conference. Romero received a Composer in Residence grant from the Arthur Blank Foundation and the Composers Forum for his work at the James T. Anderson Boys and Girls Club. Miguel is a 2002 Hambidge Residency Grant recipient. Romero is a member of Composers Forum and Chamber Music America an is on the touring roster of the Georgia Council for the Arts. Performer Magazine Miguel Romero has written and produced for dance diva Jocelyn Brown. He wrote and produced Michelle Weeks, dance single "Wake it Up" which climbed to # 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Breakout Chart. Romero and his first CD Island Breeze were voted one of the top 15 Independent and Budding Artists of 1999 by Fred Scott. Both "Island Breeze" and" Cuban Jazz Funk" feature all original compositions by Romero.
