Funny you should mention vibes, because that's another instrument that's
inherently unsuitable for the making of jazz music -- not because it's
"plugged in", but because it produces a sound that is fundamentally of
an effete nature. Which is not to say that it's impossible, but
consider the fact that in the entire history of the music, only 4 or 5
people -- if you can think of more, I'd be interested to know of them --
have actually managed to make real jazz music on vibes. In other words,
it borders on the dog-walking-on-hind-legs category -- hardly an
overwhelming vote for its merits, I'm sure you'll agree.
