Swing change for lower back?

I did some video of my swing a few weeks ago and saw a major swing flaw
due in part to some bad swing advice I got from a teaching pro a few
months ago. I had been slavishly adhering to Hogans advice to bend my
knees, and tilt my right knee in some. This served to keep my hips from
rotating further than they should have. The pro said it was bad to set
my knee like that because it set up all this tension in my swing which
she declared was bad.
Well, there went a lot of distance and ball striking accuracy, but I
came to notice that my back wasn't complaining as much as it had been.
I'd credited that to some stretching exercises I was doing.
So this past weekend I went back to bending my knees and really liked
the distance I was getting back from my irons and driver, but after only
18 holes my back was like the old days.
I saw a few days on the Golf Channel a "Lessons from the Pro" episode
with a female golfer who had her coach with her on the round of golf she
played. She managed to have a decent, (if weak) swing with an absolutely
stiff right leg and turning her hips almost as much as her shoulders. I
was agast when I saw that and figured the teaching pro as a charlatan,
but now I wonder if I could save my poor back by doing the same.
So the question is, has anyone made that kind of change to allow more
hip rotation to save wear and tear on your back? Are there any swing
changes that should go along with keeping a straight right leg so that I
can strike the ball accurately. Or is the whole idea a bad one. . . .
