Simple. 1/2 swing and full swing are completely different. If you try and extend a working 1/2 swing to a full-swing, very likely you will hit a bid shot. On a 1/2 swing, you can get away with being off plane a little; not making a full shoulder turn; having "noisy" hips; having active hands, etc. etc. I used to practice 1/2 swings to improve my feel. I'd go out, and do mostly 1/2 swings etc. Nothing was worse for my game. Quickly, it causes a slump because you totally lose track of how to swing properly. Right now, I do on somee 1/2 to 3/4 swing practice only to check my initial take away and shoulder turn.
