Q: How to make a non karaoke-dvd-player into a karaoke-player

Hi everybody,
First: Sorry for my bad English, I am a german, but I do my best.
I have bougth a scott dvd-player without a karaoke-function. The Player is
connected to a audio-receiver at its auxialary-port. So I can hear music
and the filmdialogs thru the receiver.
I want to sing karaoke, but I don't know how to plug in the microphone to
the receiver. I can plug in parallel to the audiocable, but I don't hear
anything from the microphone. Maybe the voltage of the microphone is too
low. What can I do to resolve the problem ? Do I have to buy a
microphone-amplifier ?
