So I'm sitting there watching the Coca-Cola 600 last night, and who should I see doing the national anthem, but 7 of the final 12 American Idols. Quick recap - Each Idol got a section of lyric to sing on their own, and then they did the rest of the song in harmony. During the song, a flyover occurred, which threw off some of the performers in the "land of the free" section, and they had to regroup. The idols performing were Kimberley Locke, Kimberly Caldwell, Charles Grigsby, Rickey Smith (still singing soprano), Julia DeMato, Trenyce (no, she didn't slap the microphone) and Carmen Rasmussen (yep, she yodled in the middle of her lyric). Notable by their absence were Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken (I guess they're busy making their new albums), Corey Clark and Vanessa Olivarez (who I guess are both persona non grata at this point) and Joshua Gracin. Okay, maybe it's just me, but if this is a Memorial Day performance of the Star Spangled Banner, wouldn't it have mde sense to have the Marine Idol be part of the ceremony? Which makes me suspect that if they do have this American Idol concert tour, it will probably be these seven, plus Clay and Ruben, for the tour. Get your tickets now. Chuck
