50's song lyric and info wanted

Greetings! A partial song lyric and melody line from the 1950s is
driving me nuts, and I hope someone can help. The song was played for
quite a while on KXOK in St. Louis. The line I recall is at the
beginning: "Why did I have to meet her on my last night in Rome?" I
have no idea who sang it, but it was a solo male voice.
Also, does anybody have the full lyrics to "The Train Went Through the
Middle of the House", from the mid 1950s.
