It relates to the incident a few years back (I think it was 1999) when the George Jones song "Choices" was nominated as CMA Song of the Year. Jones was asked to perform the song on the awards show on the condition that it had to be cut (as it normally the case) by a verse. Jones refused and, accordingly, was not on the show. However, good ole Alan Jackson broke off his song and sang the chorus on his behalf!
