Some of you may be wondering as to how a song that was greeted with such a grand reception way back on January 28 should be quoted by Stephen Newport here all these weeks later. The answer is, a couple of weeks ago he decided to cross-post my lyric, Dog Food, on two animal rights newsgroups. He said that I called those who object to the song "pro-pet wackos" which he later admitted was not quite so. In private e-mail exchanges, I supported the efforts of those who are working to rid the world of the practice of eating dogs and cats, although I'm not sure how they'll do that. Why have the Newports reprinted a lyric posted here and put it on newsgroups where it is least likely to meet with a good reception? (Would anyone post Mel Brooks' Springtime for Hitler at a holcaust survivor's site?) Why has he printed a private e-mail exchange of mine here (edited, of course)? Anyone have any ideas? Such actions make the description "pro-pet wacko" seem WAY too mild a term.
