[No this is cool we can play this anyway... It aint too much to jam ;] The positive message of the song is what has me spell bound. An inspiring song with as many ways to interpret it, has you care to consider. It relationship to its times makes it as potent to our times as ever, indeed that whole album because it was of its time has within it the spirit to lift us in our times. As you say, 'phoenix-like'. The piece was about the connection between songs and thought, which fits this example to a tee. To hear the words repeat over and over so that the song becomes you, without you even thinking of its effects. Singing and Smiling so that the memory of the song is bound, to the power of that emotion. Musically the song was of course inspired by the great African funk innovator Manu Dibango with his hit "Soul Makossa.", but that doesn't detract from the song, indeed its fitting that this song has that African lineage, a lineage to connect across time to the other place. If you ever get to hear the original you'll hear where the phrasing for "Mama-se mama-sa mama-ku-sa" and that part of the rhythm arrangement comes from. this in no way takes away from the song. In fact this discover just adds to the layers of strength encoded in the song. > I have heard that Michael, that unceasable perfectionist, still >wasn't satisfied I've heard this too, and just on the level of production you might agree when compared to the level of the other songs on Thriller, but in terms of sentiments, in terms of the power to lift the soul, there isn't another song on the album like it. Michael's looking to judge the song on the basis of drama, but there are any number of ways to create an atmosphere for a song besides the overly dramatic. This song succeeds in bringing joy, that's as much as anyone can hope for a song. [The song might have become some thing else again, if if the intro were anthemic - on a par to can you feel it.] "John Lucas" <email-address-deleted> wrote in message news:email-address-deleted... > Alan that's interesting that you would put that MJ lyric at the end. > Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' is one of my ALL-TIME favorite MJ > songs.
