I've listened to this CD 6 or 7 times in a row now waiting for it to grown on me, and I can't believe how many of you actually think any of these tunes are ok, let alone good. This CD is exactly what I expected RZ's solo album to sound like. And while Special One IS better than his solo album, (and The Doctor..) it's not better than any other CT album. The best tunes from Lap Of Luxury and even the Busted CD (Well ok maybe not Busted..) are better than the best tunes on this one folks. Scent Of A Woman: The reveiwer for Entertainment Weekly was wrong. As we all know this isn't the lamest song CT has ever recorded. It still makes me cringe though even two years after hearing it for the first time. Perhaps if it didn't start off like "Every Rose Has It's Thorns" and didn't have terrible lyrics. Nahhh... The best part of it is the bridge of the song but we have already heard that before on In Color right? <g> Here she comes now? Only if she has nothing better to listen too.. <g> Too Much: La.. La.. La.. La La La La la la la Laa... La? Ba.. Ha.. Ha. Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haa.... Bah! Special One: Too Much is better than this one. Pop Drone: The "drone" is a backwards 12 string bass.. This song is ok. I like the guitar solo, and the Beatlely guitar riffs throughoutt it. (In fact there's a ton of cool guitar things going on on this whole CD.. Good job Rick..) But Pop Drone needed to be recorded at a faster tempo. My Obsession: This has the same feel as "Had To Make You Mine" from Busted. I liked that song so I like this one too. I like the stuff going on during the fade outt best.. Words: Words is a piece of crap.. For most of the song it sounds like Robin is singing along with a karaoke machine. Can Bun E really like this stuff? Could this be why he doesn't seem to want to do new songs? Sorry Boy: This is the best tune on the CD. It's weird hearing Robin singing like Alice Cooper. Alice would have sang something more interesting than "Sorry Boy" though.. This is another song I think would have sounded better played faster. Best Friend: This is the song that people have raved about for the past few months? <g> Robin sings like David Bowie and then screams bloody murder? I'm not feeling it.. Filler on a CD FULL of filler. CT should have worked with Bob Ezrin on the last two tunes. If I Could: Love the 70's TV show bass line.. Look! That cop is going to talk to the pimp (With a heart of gold..) that knows all that's going on, on the street.. Having said that there's all kinds of cool vocal stuff going on here.. It was recorded really well. Low Life In High Heels and Hummer: All the cool stuff they recorded with Steve Albini and this is what they release? This is a joke. If you say you like this shit you ARE all "Gurms.." as Bun E likes to call us <g> You have to wonder what Steve Albini thought of all these new song ideas they wanted to record. "Don't you have any good songs? No? Let's rerecord In Color then.." The DVD: Is by far the best thing about buying Special One. Just hearing Say Goodbye and Hard To Tell makes me wonder what the fuck happened the past 6 years for them to release a crap CD like this. I haven't heard either of these two songs since driving to TF3 and they are both ten times better than anything on Special One and they're not my favorite songs on CT2 (as they call it now..). Listen to Special One all the way through and then play the He's A Whore video and tell me you still like any of these mostly crap tunes as much as that tune. Not even close.. The fact is.. We'll never get a good Cheap Trick record as long as Robin and Tom have a hand in writing all the songs. If they had wrote most of the tunes on the first four albums we wouldn't be here talking about the band now.. Rick needs to get outt and find some guys that are into good Cheap Trick to write songs with.. It's silly to release a CD like this when Queens of the Stone Age has a song on the radio that sounds like it came off of the first CT album.. Perhaps radio is ready for another song like that, done by a better (At least live..) band? No? Probably right, but to not feature any songs that actually sound like "CHEAP TRICK" or to not really use and feature the 12 string bass on a song is stupid. Cheap Trick plays great fast tunes. Why are there no fast tunes on this album? And these guys dare talk shit about Up The Creek? <g> At least Up The Creek sounds like Cheap Trick.. Outt.. Jeff.
