Before that I'd just hear whatever my mom would have on the radio in the car. I remember the first song I ever really liked was the Ghostbusters theme by Ray Parker Jr. when I was 4. I always liked the old motown and 50s rock my mom would listen to on the oldies station, too, along with the synthpop they'd play on the easy listening channel because it reminded me of the cartoons I'd watch on TV. And Michael Jackson's 80s stuff was cool, too. So here are just a few songs I remember thinking were cool: the Ghostbusters theme (I was 4, afterall) "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis "Johnny B. Good" by Chuck Berry "Billy Jean" by Michael Jackson "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears "Wrapped Around Your Finger" by the Police "My Girl" by the Temptations (who were the first concert I ever saw) oh, and when it came out, I thought that Ninja Turtles tape they sold at Pizza Hut was cool too.
