What bitrate for voice - and for live music?

Could someone please tell me, what is the recommended bitrate for mp3
recording:
1. Spoken voice - lectures, audio books, that kind of thing?
2. Live music, as in - recording a live band using a soundcard that
has separate inputs for each voice/instrument?
