dear fellow phish fans, and any & all who appreciate live music, Congress is considering two pieces of legislation that could effectively ban live music and concerts ! The two bills are the RAVE Act (H.R. 718) and the CLEAN-UP Act (H.R. 834). Both could be passed this year. If enacted, nightclub and stadium owners would likely stop holding concerts, since they could potentially be subjected to twenty years in federal prison for violating this proposed law. The idea is to punish property owners and promoters (nightclubs, stadiums, festivals, etc) for any drug offense that their customers may commit - even if they work hard (ie-perform searches at the door) to stop such offenses. The bill is aimed at stopping Raves, but it will impact all live concerts, big and small, which will also falls under the bill. Hopefully the music industry will use their large checkbook to lobby Congress and block the legislation, since they would loose large sums of revenue if this bill was passed. However, we can all be pro-active and write/call your representatives in Washington to say you do not want them to support these bills! happy summer touring to everyone, do it while you still can!! read about it & ACT NOW here: http://actioncenter.drugpolicy.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=1516
